So Fresh and So Clean: Gin Facial Mist

April 21, 2016

Spring is in the air, friends! The birds are singing, the sky is blue and Torontonians are breaking out the shorts because we’ve collectively lost our minds – a pretty usual Spring in the city! The snow melts away and we’re reminded of what grass looks like. Patio chairs are dusted off and served up with a pint of ice cold beer and suddenly we remember what happiness feels like as well. It’s one of our favourite times of the year because everything just feels so fresh.

We take pride in freshening ourselves up too! We can finally switch to our Spring wardrobe and shoe selection! We can even try eating salads that don’t taste terrible because all the veggies are fresh too. It’s a great time to be alive, frolicking around the high spirited streets.

Now we even have the perfect solution to help you start your morning feeling just as fresh as the weather outside! We’ll let you in on a little secret – the key to starting the day off right is actually cider and gin. Nope, we’re not recommending a 6:00 am bevvy – we’re not hardcore enough for that – but beyond the cocktail glass, did you know that gin and cider have incredible skin refining properties?

Thanks to a few pro-tips and some samples that we got from Revenge Gym on our podcast visit, we’ve been using an amazing homemade facial toner each morning for the last month. It made us feel crisp and alert in the wee hours of the a.m. as well as moderating the oiliness and  evening out our skin tone. The secret ingredients were gin and apple cider vinegar. Using up the last drop made us so sad that we decided to try our hand at making our own batch!

We got adventurous and actually made our own apple cider vinegar using Brickworks Ciderhouse Batch 1904! Stay tuned for our next post where we fill you in on our Nordic vinegar making skills. In the meantime we recommend substituting the homemade stuff for some good ol’ Braggs Raw Apple Cider Vinegar.

We decided to go with Bulldog gin because it has the industry’s largest count of botanicals and that sounds exactly like what our skin would like. This post is easy peasy so feel free to include your favourite essential oils or toners. We’d love to know how you personalized it! Share your recipe with us @TipsyTeachers or on our Facebook page!

So Fresh & So Clean Gin Facial Mist

What Y’all Need:

2 tsp Bulldog Gin
4 tsp Homemade Brickworks Ciderhouse Batch 1904 Apple Cider Vinegar OR  store bought Bragg’s Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
4 tsp Witch Hazel
2-3 drops Orange Essential Oil
Spray bottle
1oz shot glass
Measuring spoons
Parchment paper

Measure out the Bulldog gin, witch hazel, apple cider vinegar and the essential oil into the shot glass and stir. This is a good time to test the scent! Add a little more oil if that’s what smells right to you!

Create a funnel with a small piece of rolled parchment paper and carefully pour your concoction into the spray bottle.

Cap it and give it a spritz! You can thank us for your happy mornings later!

Dubbed as the Tipsy Teachers, we ask the questions we were once too afraid to ask; what’s the difference between ales and lagers? Shaken and stirred? Do bitters make your drink bitter? Wait… you’re supposed to sip tequila? What’s on tap and what does draught even mean?

Before starting out on this boozy adventure, we found ourselves ordering the same drink all the time and came to the conclusion that there’s more to life than a vodka cran. Now we’re on a mission to learn all things alcohol and share our new knowledge with our readers!

Join the class to learn all about this wonderful, and sometimes confusing, world of booze.
